Rodents – mice and rats are an issue in most countries of the world and many industries. They multiply very fast and can destroy and contaminate food, can chew on wires and other items in the hotel, can make a lot of mess but also transmit a lot of dangerous diseases.

Spiders – even though most species do not bite humans or transmit diseases, they are still very unpleasant to see and many people have a fear of these creatures. They usually lurk in corners and hidden places and create their webs, and that’s why it is very important for cleaning staff to always clean every nook and cranny in a hotel room.

Cockroaches – Not only they are disgusting to see, but they are also destructive, resilient and can cause health issues. They are usually associated with filth and clutter, and can spread rapidly. Most species have a bad odour, while others even produce sound. They prefer to feed on sweets, starches, greasy foods and meat, but they can also consume books, paper, wallpaper paste and more. While they do not bite humans directly, they can spread 33 types of bacteria, including the dangerous Salmonella and E. coli. Their droppings and shed skins can create asthma and allergy symptoms in children.

Flies – they are annoying insects that buzz around, and can make people and pets uncomfortable. They are also a serious threat to public health because of the diseases they can carry. They do not bite or sting people directly, but they are known to spread more than 200 pathogens and parasites to humans. They usually feed on trash cans, decaying flesh, rotting food and manure, and that’s where they pick up all the nasty parasites from. There are thousands of species out there, and many of them can be found in hospitality facilities. They can multiply very fast, that’s why it is important to prevent them before the problem becomes unmanageable.

Moths (and other night insects) – they may seem like harmless insects that do not bite people or transmit any diseases, but they can become very annoying and destructive if they get in contact with people’s clothes and outdoor fruits and tree leaves. No hotel owner would like the guests to post negative reviews stating that they brought home a moth infestation from the hotel.

Termites – even though they are so tiny and harmless to people, they can cause a lot of structural and economic damage. They multiple very fast, and if left untreated they can create huge colonies with millions of insects. They can destroy furniture, door and window frames, walls and ceilings, electric wires, important documents, roof tiles and even the foundation of your hotel. The estimated economic damage caused by termites is around $336 billion per year worldwide. In Australia alone, the damage is estimated to more than 100 million dollars.
